Run For A Child Skips A Year

Posted by on August 31, 2017

Despite popular support, the 2017 Run For A Child event was not added to the calendar. The 5K, 10K an 1 Mile FunRun event has been growing over the last 8 years. Unfortunately, scheduling conflicts for Steven’s Hope made hosting the event unrealistic.

The event has had a long evolution to be the Run For A Child. Originally, the event started as a motorcycle Poker-Run in October of 2003. After a few years, cars were added and a “cruise” from Cable Airport to Memorial Park in Upland where there was live music, vendors and pie-eating contests. The motorcycles faded out and a rum was added. At first, the run was called “One Tough Run” as participants ran up and down the median of Euclid Avenue in Upland. The event location moved from Memorial Park to the Life Bible Fellowship Church at the top of Euclid.

Safety concerns of running on Euclid Avenue lead to a change in venue to Prado Regional Park and the name change to “Run For A Child.” Since the move to Prado, the event has been headed by Lulu Tyner, a volunteer at Steven’s Hope since 2009.

As for the return of The Run in 2018, that still has to be determined.
