Winter Wonderland didn’t start out as a planned project. Tony was writing the newsletter back in 2005 and he had a little “white space” remaining. To fill the space, he asked readers to help with “Winter Wonderland: a Christmas Gift Giving Project.” Well, the next thing you know, the phone is ringing and people wanted to help.
And help they did! Winter Wonderland allows our supporters to be directly influential in the joy that kids have over the holiday season. From the presents and the smiles to the memories that can last a lifetime, Winter Wonderland works.
As family finances are stretched due to the cost of care for a sick child, the family’s ability to celebrate the holidays is greatly reduced. Winter Wonderland, provides presents to the sick child and the siblings who otherwise may not have presents to open.
Through the generosity of donors we are able to put this time of year into perspective. Despite how we are personally dealing with the challenges of our world, most of us are truly blessed with family, friends, resources and support. This is a fabulous opportunity to share your individual blessings with others.
That first year, we delivered presents to 72 children. The project continued expanding rapidly. In 2014, presents were distributed to over 1,800 children from 8 area hospitals and several treatment centers. This year, we are gearing up for our biggest Winter Wonderland ever.
If you have fond memories of the holidays, please help us create some great memories for these children and their families during what may be the most stressful times in their lives. Winter Wonderland. Share the Joy!
